Dear friend,
If you’re reading this, thank you for sticking around. I am truly grateful that you did. On the 17th of June, ShadowBlink will complete 7 years of official existence. The past few years have been quiet on the public front. And that’s because life had a few things for me to experience before I could share my journey with you. However, when it comes to music, it has been very, very productive. Amongst various things, I have finished my third long form project which will be the second continuous album that will be released under ShadowBlink. The first long form being more of an experiment, it may or may not be released.
I have been digging around in the various computers that I have produced music on and as it turns out, I have quite a bit of music waiting to be released. They date as far back as 2011, one whole year before I launched this project. Looking back, it is clear that I was waiting for things to happen so that I could put my music out to the world.
Waiting to make better music. Waiting to hear from a label. Waiting to get some mixing and mastering experience. Waiting to get monitors. Waiting to get a studio. Waiting. Just waiting. And of course, making music all along the way. Now that over a decade has passed since I started making music with the intent to release someday, a few things are clear to me.
One – the perfect time will never come.
Two – I’m not invested enough in the industry to actually make time for label hunting.
Three – I just want to make music and share it with people because that’s the whole point of making art. At least in my case it is so.
The world has moved on. It took me a while, but I finally looked up and noticed. So here’s what I’m doing about it.
Starting this month, I am making one release every month. This means an album, a single or an ep every month. This will continue till I get through the entire stockpile of music that I have and catch up to the latest stuff. In figuring this out, a few more things have come up to the surface and added themselves to the project.
ShadowBlink was always meant to be a mixed media project. It is my outlet for the art that I create. Besides music, I create photographs, videos and stories. While the photographs and videos render themselves beautifully into visuals for the music, I wasn’t sure about how to blend in the stories I write. That was until this one hot summer afternoon in June this year (2019).
There has been an idea knocking around in my head for a few years now – of a fantasy world that is the product of my daydreams. And I daydream about many fantastic things! So I have decided to start writing and share this world with you. It doesn’t have a name yet but it is most certainly the companion world to the music of ShadowBlink, as much as the music will be the background score for this world.
Then there is the live performance aspect. Musicians making magic on stage has always been one of my primary inspirations for music making, especially the magic manifested by those gifted and dedicated individuals that I have and have had the privilege of calling my friends. So I am working towards a live show. More updates as it happens.
There’s also my beloved Kolmine Collective – lots of Collabs and excitement on the way for us there too.
